Mermaid Wall Border
There are four high walls in my room
I’m so small and the walls are so tall
That I have to bend way back to look up to see
My friends who are looking down at me.
Each wide expanse
Is splashed with shades of the sea
Azure, jade, cobalt, emerald and indigo
Meshing, and swirling, ornaments of color
moving in and out as they flow
from one to the other like the tide,
in and out, the waves of color crash
and surge and move from side to side.
At the very tip top of my sea walls
Are pictures of my little mermaid friends,
Who swish and sway and swirl
On the swells of these spaces, they bounce and curl.
All the way around my room
They dance and twist amongst images of bright orange fish
With the navy shelled turtles and their octopus friends
They jump over, and then under in one fluid swish.
Through the floating bubbles that flow around and upward without end
To smile down at me and let me know that I’m safe.
In my room with its decorations of colorful sea life
In my little kids bed
Under the watchful eyes of Ruby, Goldie, Olive, Sapphire, and Pumpkin
watching me from over my head.
