Hello! I’m Sheila Sheet Set. Of course you’ll find me under your comforter, pillowcase and sham; and covering your comfy mattress. Many people describe me as a cuddler. That’s because my two sheets are the closest things to you at night. We love to cuddle you while you sleep and make sure that nothing scratches or harms you. Between you and me, I sometimes get bored during the day when you are awake and playing. Then it’s not much fun just lying here and looking pretty covering your mattress. I like to join in your games as well.
Sometimes I like being a tunnel. Yes, you can drape me over two large chairs so that I do not go all the way to the floor on each side but leave a space underneath me in the middle. Then you and you friends can run through the tunnel below me just like cars, trucks, busses and trains can do. (If you don’t know how to set this up, ask your story teller to show you using a sheet that’s not on your bed at this time.) When you run under me through the tunnel, remember to run slowly so that you don’t slip, fall and bump your head.
Sometimes I like being a tent. When you have friends over, you can drape me over two or three smaller chairs so that I make a roof in the middle and drape all the way down to the floor. This way I even look like a real camping tent. Be careful when you drape me over smaller chairs. Some chairs can tip over and fall on top of you. Have one of your parents check out your tent before you get into it. If your friends are staying over, and you don’t have a real tent, why not all turn me into a tent and sleep under me for fun at night?
One thing to remember is: NEVER light a match or make a fire under a bedsheet. It will catch alight and burn all over very quickly. You and your friends can get very bad burns on your skin this way. It’s best not to play with matches or lighters ever.
I don’t like being used as a slide. If you let people lie on me and then pull me across the floor while your friends are still on top of me, I will get very dirty and tear. I don’t like that. It’s not being kind and caring towards me.
Of course, if you pull me off the bed, you will need to put me back and make the bed all tidy again when you have finished playing with me. It’s probably a good idea to first ask one of your parents if you can play with me off the bed. Sometimes your Mom has other sheet sets in a drawer somewhere and she will let you play with my cousins without taking me off the bed.
Please remember that I like being close to you. I hope that you will always like being close to me and that you will care for me just like I care for you.
