Planes, Trains, and Trucks Valance
Hello! I’m your valance up here above the curtains. I’m also looking down at you. A boy’s bedroom would just not look complete without me. That’s why I’m blue. Blue is a favorite color for boys. Like your drapes, I’m made from a woven fabric with blue, light blue and white checked squares. I don’t have trucks, trains, planes and tractors on me. My plain blue appearance lets your comforter and pillows really stand out and look good in your room.
It’s good that I am made of blue checks. If I was made of black and white checks, the vehicles in the room might start racing around all over the show. Do you know why?
Well with this rod holding me up, and with black and white checks, I could easily be confused with the flag they use in vehicle races. At famous motor races like NASCAR, the Indie 500 or Formula 1 races, a checkered flag is waved to signal which car won the race. As the winner crosses the finish line, the race judge waves a black and white checkered flag above his head.
So now you see. If I were black and white we might just have the cars and trucks in your room charging around racing in all directions causing chaos. It’s better that you are the one who decides when to race them.
By the way, have you read the story about your bed skirt, and making a tunnel under your bed to race your cars? If you would like to read it ask your storyteller to go to
