Who on earth thinks up a name like: Hugger Comforter? Big people, when they buy bedroom furniture and select decor for your room, seem to come up with funny names for us. I believe I got my name because I don’t lie loosely over your bed like other comforters. I’ve been shaped to snugly fit to the bed. I fit so neatly and tightly that they call me a “Hugger.”
But between you and me, I actually like the name Hugger Comforter because it says something about my friendship with you. Your bedsheet likes to think of herself as a “cuddler” because she is the one who is closest to you all night. I like to think of myself as a Hugger because I wrap myself around you and the bedsheet and help you feel tightly tucked in and safe at night.
The planes, trains, tractors and construction equipment that travel across my cover are all there to protect you at night. While I’m doing the hugging, they’re doing the protecting. It’s their job to see that nothing bad gets to you at night. If anything comes near you they shine their lights and honk their horns to frighten anything bad away. So, you can sleep safely every night.
You probably find that your parents are huggers and you’re a cuddler. You love your parents to hug you and let you know how much they love you. You probably like to crawl onto their laps now and again and cuddle tightly. Sometimes it good for you to be a hugger too, you know. Moms and Dads have so many things to do and sometimes they have lots of worries. Sometimes they might even get short with you and shout at you because they need to attend to something important and cannot always attend to you when you want them to.
Good children will notice this and understand when their parents are troubled about something. Let your parent get on with doing what they have to do but watch until they sit back and relax once it’s done. Then it’s good to walk up to them, wrap your arms around them and give them a big hug. Tell them: “It’ll be OK” and just give them a tight, loving hug.
Remember that your parents were little kids once too and they sure appreciate as many hugs as you can give them. It reminds them of those times when they were young and safe.
