When you look around your room what do you see? I’m your window curtains. I wave to you in the breeze. I like you to wave back just so I know that you notice me.
I love when there is a strong wind and I am not held back by the ties because then I try to reach out and touch you. Your bed sheet, pillows and comforter are lucky to live right near you. I love you too but I have a different job to do.
Some people think I’m just here to make the window look pretty and to complete the décor in your room. Or they think I’m only here so that others cannot see you when I’m drawn closed across your windows. I can share my secret with you. I capture stories and fantasies like the sales of a ship capture the wind at sea.
I have very good hearing. I listen to stories from the birds, the squirrels, the ants, the butterflies and all the creatures that fly near our house. When I flap in the breeze, I funnel these stories to your friends in the room like Elton Elephant, Graham Gorilla and Leonard Lion. At night when you’re asleep and the animals come alive, they share the stories with each other and decide which ones will be of most interest to you.
So when you see me flap in the breeze again, please wave back. It would be nice if occasionally you touch me and stroke me to let me know that you love me too.
