Ocean Liner – Framed Print
Tooooooot! Toooooot! For the grand old lady of the sea in your own ocean liner framed print.
Wow! I guess you won’t know about the good old days of steam ships? Ask your story tellers if they remember the days of the grand old steam ships?
Years ago ship builders built ships with steam engines. Gone were the days of slow sail ships. The steam engine had been discovered. People found that if you made a fire and boiled water, it would turn into steam. Next time someone in your home cooks food and boils water, watch the water turn into faint white smoke, called steam. People found that if you squeeze this steam into narrow tubes, you create a pushing force that can turn things. They soon realized it could be used to turn huge propellers to make heavy ships move forward, or backwards, in water.
Once this discovery had been made, the race was on to build bigger and faster ships with more and more births (each room in a ship is called a birth). In this ocean liner framed print, you see the S.S. Explorer. By the way, “S.S.” before the ship’s name stands for “Steam Ship.”
The S.S. Explorer has three funnels. Each funnel pushes hot steam into the cool air above the ship. The steam immediately turns from hot water into white smoke that billows above the vessel as it crosses the ocean.
Many children love to have images of ships in their rooms, especially young children who love exploring. Framed prints of old steam ships remind people not only about the fun of exploring new places, but also of those grand, luxury travel times.
It took many weeks to cross the ocean from one land to another. The steam ships had grand dining rooms, dance floors, and sun decks. People lived in luxury for many days on the ocean. They would dress up for meals and would dance and twirl into the early hours of the morning, having lots of fun.
Ships today are much larger, faster and are equipped with many more things to do but they travel so fast, you are at your next harbor over night or with only one day at sea. Some people still dream of those lazy, luxury days aboard steamships.
