Mermaid Drawer Pull Knobs
“Come to my World,” said Olive as she flickered her tail to and fro. “If you’re brave enough to dare to open my drawer, you will see all the wonders that it holds; a vast ocean full of amazing images. You’ll meet all my friends; Mr. Sea-turtle, Mrs. Starfish, and Bobby the flounder.” The little girl gazed at the decorations on the drawer pull with a furrowed brow and a curious tilt of her head. What was she to do? All she wanted was to lie down on her bed in her room, but as soon as she set off to complete this simple task, the little mermaid on the new drawer pull knob of her dresser began to speak! The little girl, quite flustered, managed to stutter politely, “Oh, oh no, I really shouldn’t, you see, it’s late, and I need to go to sleep.” The little mermaid understood the child’s great dilemma, so she said with a smile, “Come back tomorrow morning, and I will take you on an adventure!”
So, the next morning the little girl leapt out of her bed, bright and early, with a skip in her step. She couldn’t wait to see what the mermaid had planned for the day. She had thought about it all night and knew just what to say. “Good morning,” Olive said smiling and staring at the little girl from the picture on the drawer pull knob. “Are you ready to explore the ocean I call my world?” “More than ever!” the little girl replied with a grin, as she placed her tiny hand around the knob and pulled open her dresser drawer with a swirl of anticipation storming in her belly. Suddenly she was diving into the beautiful pattern on the knob into a sea palace, surrounded by bubbles and patterns of blue, green, orange, and red. As she followed the little mermaid along the walls of the palace, she was introduced to all the mermaids living under the sea. Olive had so many friends and she got to meet all of them. “So,” they said, “Are all the kids like you.” “No,” she smiled. “We’re all different, just like you are different from your friends.” She pushed through the ornaments of seaweed that swirled upward from the sea floor and twirled around the coral décor surrounding her, all the while being chased by a trail of bubbles. The little girl spent the rest of the day continuing her discoveries and adventures in the unknown blue and green tinted world. And from then on, every morning she came and visited her friend, Olive, fitting her tiny fingers around that dresser drawer pull knob, which she so often had uses as a portal to her own imagination.
